“Evergreen sits on the western border of Yosemite National Park, and it’s [this] ‘hidden gem’ fifth entrance that most people don’t talk about or know about, which is the Hetch Hetchy Entrance,” explains Teri Marshall, director of marketing and communications for Evergreen. The lodge was built nearly a century ago as housing for railroad workers forging the Hetch Hetchy Railroad, and it’s now home to 89 cabins for overnight accommodations alongside on-site activities and dining options. It’s open year-round with a temporary six-week closure in January, reopening every Presidents Day weekend.
Private group experiences are curated by the Evergreen team, which can include on-site scavenger hunts, explorations of nearby nature trails, or guided excursions to Yosemite. The property comfortably hosts groups of 40 to 60, and its restaurant for up to 80 people boasts historic charm as the oldest part of the lodge.
“Everything is designed to get people outside and reconnect with nature and reconnect with people,” says Marshall. “So, when we say it’s ‘meetings of a different nature,’ it’s a fun play on words but it’s [also] the truth.”

AG: “I loved the entire experience at Evergreen but my highlight of this trip was how caring and tentative the staff was. My 2 year old burnt his hand on the fireplace and in the middle of the night, during a snowstorm, Jacob ran to my cabin, with no hesitation and forgot his radio, just to bring burn cream, bandaids, and check on my toddler. It was so kind and made my heart so happy.”
EL: We are so happy to hear our lovely front desk agent came to the rescue! Hoping the rest of your stay left you with fond Yosemite memories.
IG: “…Head here to to find the best sunsets and stargazing. We’ve been coming to the Evergreen Lodge before she was born. She even got to be the flower girl in our wedding we had at Wapama Grove. We’re are so glad we can now share Evergreen Lodge with her and her brother. We love doing the scavenger hunt and exploring the grounds.”

SL: “We visit every winter and hope we get snow. This last trip did NOT disappoint.”

ST: “We love watching the sunset at the lookout point near the Sierra cabins. We love the sound of our children sneaking out in the morning to get a head start on the zip lines. We love the fire pits starting up early because it’s never the wrong time to sip cocoa and watch the flames. We love the crafts, games, and imagination that take over when there are no movies to watch or social media to distract. We love every corner of Evergreen, every hike, every animal spotting (yes we saw a bear many years ago right outside the game room!! We’ll never recover!), and every memory. Evergreen is our actual happy place- away from the city and in the most beautiful pocket of California.”
EL: It’s an incredible honor to hear such kind words, thank you for sharing them. We feel so lucky to harbor unforgettable memorables and be a place where your family grows.
Our team literally laughed out loud at you never recovering from your bear sighting! We rarely see bears on property, and of course you would see one in or Main Plaza. What are the odds!?
MA: “Yosemite in the winter time is our favorite — the park is quiet, the air is crisp, and the lodge is cozy. We look forward to our annual trip every February to the mountains to escape from the hustle and bustle of normal life and spend some quality time recharging together.”
EL: You have “How to Stay Alive in the Woods” down to a tee! Cozy cabin, fuzzy blanket, hot drink – these are the wilderness conditions we love.
LS: “Playing in a blizzard one day and enjoying phenomenal views with clear skies and fresh snow the next day. The most beautiful winter wonderland we’ve ever seen!”
EL: Winter in Yosemite can be unpredictable, and we love when you accidentally time it perfectly. Enjoying this view after a big snow is everyone’s Yosemite winter dream!
RL: “These three have been best friends since they were toddlers, and grew up visiting Evergreen Lodge every winter together. They love the view from the Sierra cabins and the having snowball fights at the campgrounds. These three have hiked the waterfalls and the sequoias and experienced so many beautiful moments together. We are so grateful for the gem that is Evergreen Lodge.”
EL: We can’t stop smiling over this one! Friendships like this don’t happen every day and we are honored to be a part of these memories.
AA: “We had a blast during our stay at Evergreen Lodge. It was our first trip out to see snow! Who knew snow would be so cold and icy???”

With its recent expansion, the Evergreen Lodge has become a full-service, historic resort with 88 roomy cottages in the woods. The lodge is just a mile from Yosemite National Park in California, making it convenient for guests to visit the park’s most popular sites, including Yosemite Valley, Tuolumne Meadows, and Hetch Hetchy. In addition to the lodge’s excellent food and traditional pub, guests can also take advantage of the sun deck, game room, children’s play areas, evening events, and therapeutic massage provided by Evergreen.

You don’t have to come with kids in tow to stay at Evergreen Lodge, but with summer camp vibes and cabins large enough for the whole family, it’ll be a whole lot more fun if you do. A total of 88 cottages spread across 20 acres of towering pines come in different sizes and shapes, from the four-person deluxe cabin to the 2,500-square-foot, three bedroom John Muir House (for a more rustic option, try the custom tent sites). But really, the cabins are just a place to lay your head. From forest disc golf and ropes courses, to campfire singalongs and nature crafts, to yoga and bocce ball, the activities here are virtually endless. Don’t worry, grown-ups, there are a few things just for you too, including a full-service pool bar, massages, and live music.

EL: This is absolutely adorable. The pure happiness along with the smallest hint of panic on her face was a perfect way to capture trying new activities when you are visiting Evergreen Lodge.
